Qilin Character Design
Project dates:
original: February 2020
This project is one of a few personal project that I think is good enough to share. for this project I chose to create a character design based on a mythical creature and design outfit for the character that fits the culture that the mythical creature is from.

I choses to go with the Qilin (link to a wiki: Qilinalso know as the Kirin or Jirin. it is a mythical creature from Chinese foke lore, but that can also be found in Korean and Japanese mythology. even thought Qilin are depicted as and are commonly know as being masculine I chose to have this design be female to make it unique in some way.

I tried out a few colour pallets using colour that Qilin are commonly depicted as having and find a good colour pallet with choses colour include. I did also have a few colour pallets that don't have much connection to the colours of a Qilin, I when with one of those colour schemes. the colours still fitted at that represent aspects that the Qilin is said to have or represent.

purple is associated with magic and royalty, and so fits the idea that the Qilin appear with the immediate arrival or passing of a mage or ruler. Blue often associted with the sky, water and being calm fits the idea that the Kirin walks on clouds or water and that they are peaceful creatures. white is often seen as being pure, heavenly, and good witch can tie into the Qilin being a more driven creature like Chinese's dragons and that it can tell if someone is Bad or good as well as if they are guilt or innocent. last is green witch the Qilin is often depected as being in paintings, thought the shade of green I used is different.

going in order the first few outfits are used used wore the Chinese:  Pien Fu, Late Tang dynasty style Hanfu, Chrogosm. & Ruqun Hanfu. the next couple are based on the Japanese Kimono & Hakama. then the next two are base on the Koran Hanbok, then the two after that are base on the Vietnamese Ao Dai. lastly is a Ming style Hanfu witch is traditional Taiwanese dress along. then the last outfit design I made is an outfit design not really based on any cultural oufit but more taking elements from a few different ones.
